Processed on your device — the file is not uploaded. The old text is removed from the page content, not just covered.

Only the selected text is replaced: text does not wrap and paragraphs are not reflowed. Check the preview before saving.

How to use

  1. Add a PDF that contains text (not a scan).
  2. Click the text to change on the page, or type a few words into “Find text to edit”.
  3. Type the new text and click “Apply”. The preview page is rebuilt by the same engine that saves the file.
  4. Make more edits if needed, then click “Save edited file” and download it.

Current limits

  • Only the selected text is replaced: text does not wrap and paragraphs are not reflowed. Longer text moves the rest of the line to the right (or choose to squeeze it to fit).
  • Fonts embedded in a PDF usually contain only the characters already used; missing characters use a replacement font metric-compatible with Times New Roman or Arial.
  • Text on scans (images) cannot be edited: use Redact, then Fill & sign.
  • Digitally signed files: the signature is no longer valid on the edited file.

Frequently asked questions

Is the old text just covered with a white box?

No. The old characters are removed from the page content before the new text is written, and the saved file is reopened to check that no old character remains there. Lines, images and backgrounds behind it stay unchanged.

Does the new text use the same font?

If the font embedded in the file has every character of the new text, that exact font is reused. Otherwise a serif or sans-serif replacement font metric-compatible with Times New Roman / Arial is used, and the tool tells you.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Reading, editing and checking run in your browser on your device.

Can I edit a scanned PDF?

Text on a scanned image cannot be edited. OCR only adds a hidden text layer for searching. To replace text on a scan, use Redact to remove it, then Fill & sign to write new text.
