Privacy

This policy describes how PDF Tool Plus (https://pdftoolplus.com) handles data when you use the site. In short: your documents are processed on your device and are not uploaded to our servers — the only exception is “Word, Excel, PowerPoint to PDF”, which exists only when the operator enables it and sends a file only after you tick consent (see its own section below).

Files and documents you add

  • Files you choose or drop are read and processed by code running in your browser (a Web Worker). No tool — including text recognition (OCR), PDF comparison and redaction — uploads files to a server, except “Word, Excel, PowerPoint to PDF” (which needs your consent).
  • File contents, thumbnails and results only live in the memory of your browser tab. Pressing “Clear session”, closing the tab or reloading the page discards them.
  • The site keeps a small flag in sessionStorage to know the session was just reloaded (to show a “session ended” notice). The flag contains no file names or content.
  • When you press “Save as template”, a group’s requirements (format, size limit, page size, image size, the file name you chose) are stored in this browser’s localStorage for reuse — never your documents. Delete them in “Manage templates…” or by clearing the site’s data.
  • The offline cache (service worker) only stores the website’s own code and assets (HTML, JavaScript, fonts, icons), never your documents.
  • A password you type to unlock a PDF is only used in your browser’s memory to decrypt that file: it is not sent to a server, not stored and never included in measurement data.
  • The font used for watermarks, page numbers, form filling and the recognized text layer is loaded from this site itself (no third-party service).
  • Signature images you draw or upload stay in the tab’s memory to be placed in the file; they are not sent or stored.
  • Files you download are saved to your device according to your browser’s download handling.

Text recognition (OCR)

  • The Tesseract recognizer (WebAssembly) and language data (only the languages you choose: English, Spanish, French, Indonesian or Vietnamese) are downloaded from this site itself the first time you use it; your browser may cache them so they are not downloaded again.
  • Page images and recognized text are processed only in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere.

Receiving photos from your phone

  • When you use “Receive from phone”, your computer and phone exchange connection details (WebRTC) through the site’s relay server. These messages are encrypted with a key inside the QR code — the key is never sent to the server; the server keeps messages in memory for at most 10 minutes and deletes them as soon as the session ends.
  • Photos travel directly between the two devices over an encrypted WebRTC channel. If the devices cannot connect directly and the operator has configured a relay (TURN) server, encrypted data may pass through it, but that server cannot decrypt it.

Word, Excel, PowerPoint to PDF (only when enabled, with your consent)

This is the only feature that sends files off your device. It appears only when the operator enables a conversion server; otherwise the page just explains how to save as PDF on your device.

  • When files are sent: only after you choose files, read the information about the server and tick “I agree to send … files”. Adding a file requires consenting again. The server rejects any request without the consent confirmation.
  • What is sent, and where: the file content and its extension (docx, xlsx…) — not the file name — to the server address shown in the consent box.
  • Processing: the file is converted to PDF with LibreOffice in a temporary folder used only for that conversion.
  • Retention: the original and the temporary PDF are deleted from the server as soon as the conversion finishes, before the result is returned — also on error or timeout. No copy is kept; file names and content are not logged.
  • Limits: the size limit per file and the time limit per conversion are shown on the page.
  • The PDF you receive stays in your browser; next steps (merge, compress…) run on your device.

Measurement data

To learn which tools are useful and which errors happen, the site may record anonymous events such as: opening a tool, starting/finishing processing, error codes, meeting or missing a size limit, clicking download. Each event only carries predefined properties: tool name, number of files, size bracket (for example “1–5 MB”), processing-time bracket, error code.

File names, document contents, thumbnails, extracted text and download links are never sent. Measurement is off by default and only enabled when the operator configures a cookie-less analytics service (for example Plausible Analytics).

Advertising and cookies

The site may show Google AdSense ads to cover running costs. When ads are enabled:

  • Google and third-party vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings or learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
  • For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the site uses a Google-certified consent management platform to ask for your choice before advertising cookies are used.
  • Ads only appear on the home page, the guides page and in the guidance section below some tools — outside the area where you work with files and never next to download buttons. There are no ads on Prepare documents, Redact PDF, Fill & sign PDF, Compare PDF, Text recognition (OCR) and Word, Excel, PowerPoint to PDF. The site never passes files, file names or document content to ad code.

If you do not see any ad frames at the moment, ads are not enabled yet.

Contact emails

If you email us, your address and message are used to reply to you and are not shared with others unless required by law.

The site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect children’s information.
