What to extract
JPEG images are taken out as they are (not recompressed, no quality loss); other images are saved as lossless PNG.
Icons, rules and images under 32 pixels.
Takes the PDF’s text layer. Scanned pages have no text layer.
Read and extracted on your device — the file is not uploaded.
How to use
- Add the PDF.
- Choose images, text, or both. Keep “Skip tiny images” to leave out icons and rules.
- Press “Extract”: images appear in a grid with their size and pages; the text appears in a preview box.
- Download images one by one or all as a ZIP, or download the text as .txt / copy it all.
Current limits
- JPEG images are taken out byte for byte as stored in the PDF. Other images are saved as lossless PNG; JBIG2 images and special colour spaces (Lab, spot colours) can’t be extracted yet and are reported.
- JPEG images with transparency are extracted as the original JPEG (without the transparency).
- Text comes only from the PDF’s text layer. Scans and photos have none and need text recognition (OCR).
- Text order follows how the PDF stores it; multi-column layouts and tables may come out in a different order than you read them.
Frequently asked questions
Do the extracted images lose quality?
No. JPEG images are copied out byte for byte as stored in the file; other images are decoded and saved as lossless PNG. Quality can’t be higher than the image embedded in the PDF.
Why can’t I get text from some PDFs?
Scanned or photographed files only contain pictures of the pages, with no text layer. Text recognition (OCR) is needed to turn the picture of text into real text.
Can I extract images from a password-protected PDF?
Yes, after unlocking it with the password right in the notice when you add the file (you need to know the password).
