Output requirements
Each file is compressed separately and checked against the same limit.
Images on these pages keep higher quality; other pages are compressed harder so the file still fits. Applies to each file.
Advanced options
Pages turned into images lose selectable/searchable text. Off by default.
Add at least one page to create a file.
How to use
- Add one or more PDF files.
- Choose a target: 500 KB, 1 MB, 2 MB, 5 MB or a custom value.
- Press “Compress PDF”. Every attempt is measured by the real byte size of the saved file.
- Compare before and after at the same zoom, then download.
Current limits
- Only images inside the PDF are recompressed; text, fonts and drawings stay unchanged — text-heavy PDFs are usually hard to shrink much.
- Not every PDF can reach every limit. When it does not, you see the real size and can still download the over-limit version.
- Pages are turned into images only if you enable that option, because selectable text is lost.
- JPEG2000, JBIG2, CCITT and CMYK images are kept as they are.
Frequently asked questions
Why can’t my PDF go below 500 KB?
The size may come from embedded fonts or vector content rather than images. Try removing pages, black-and-white images, or allowing pages to become images.
Will compression remove text?
Not by default. Only images inside are downsampled and re-encoded; text stays selectable and searchable.
What about digitally signed PDFs?
Compression creates a new file, so the signature is no longer valid. You are warned first; if the original already fits, the original is kept unchanged.
