Repair PDF

Processed on your device — the file is not uploaded. Pages are not turned into images: the new file is rebuilt from the remaining PDF data.

Only structural errors are fixed (position table, end of file, data lengths, page tree). Data that is missing from the file cannot be recovered.

How to use

  1. Add the damaged PDF. If another tool says the file is damaged, click “Try to repair” right in that message.
  2. The tool checks the structure: header, object position table, end of file, data lengths, page tree — and lists the problems found.
  3. The file is rebuilt and reopened to check every page; see which pages were recovered.
  4. Download the repaired file, or continue with another tool.

Current limits

  • Only structural errors are fixed. Data missing from the file cannot be recovered: pages whose content was cut off are only partly recovered.
  • Damaged password-protected files cannot be repaired yet.
  • Problems inside page content (broken fonts or images) are outside the scope of this tool.

Frequently asked questions

Why do PDF files get damaged?

Usually an incomplete download, saving over an unstable connection, email systems altering the file, or software writing a wrong object position table. Most of the page data is usually still in the file.

Does the tool turn pages into images?

No. The new file is rebuilt from the remaining PDF objects (text, fonts and images unchanged), so the text can still be selected and searched.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Checking and rebuilding run in your browser on your device.

How do I know the repaired file works?

The tool reopens the repaired file with two different PDF readers, counts the pages and draws each one; any page that still fails is reported.
